Subject: InTunesPendence Day 16th September 2025
Many Thanks,
Tunesday must meet this week! It is imperative! Many vegetables have sacrificed to make this Tunesday a success. Onions, yams, radishes, cabbages, garlic, and pumpkins have all been seen succumbing. While there are fewer vegetables in the Capital city, there is no shortage of music. Sing softly of cattail shoots and cholla buds like you did when we were young. We must again be part of the great arroyo of sound! You say that you can only make music hitting a brass ashtray lying on an electric guitar with a threaded rod. This too is music, important if it is considered with a open heart. Make that sound with puzzled joy!!! We would all prefer you use an electric uke, but if this is the only way that expression comes to you bring it forth in fountains of abundant humor. Let yourself and convention be free. Hear what your muse wills you to hear and share it to our many ears. Please remember Tuesday 16 September, a Tunesday, has great historical significance that just may prompt you to buy some new pants. September 16th is of course Independence Day for Mexico (1810), Papua New Guinea (1975) and the Eastern part of Malaysia (1963). A national day where we can hear the people yell “Merdeka!” and “Malaysia Boleh!”. Let’s all go to the mall! Let’s play ukuleles! NO! and YES! Please come and join us between the hours of 17:30 and 19:00. I have no Idea what those hours are on your watch since yours is also a phone. For the sake of the vegetables! Bring a uke, an attitude of independence and a sense of joy that can only come from the sound of a well-placed ashtray. But “What of the Korean sijo punctuating this momentous event, you did promise?” I hear you saying. My memory fades, but I must trust yours. Thus, a guided poem, skillfully extracted from a beast of a limitless electricity appetite.
Ashtray perched on a Stratocaster, wobbling sweetly over steel.
Threaded rod strikes like thunder—joy breaks open in reverberant tone.
Borneo flags flutter, vegetables boil, and the amp hums freedom.
It is remarkable where music can be found if you do really dumb playful things. Perhaps this
