Two GREAT events for local uke players!

March 10th Jim D’Ville workshop on “Playing By Ear” from 6:00 – 7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The event will be at First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe, located at 208 Grant Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87501. The cost will be $25.00 payable to Jim at the event

Doors open at 5:30PM

  • Second – The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain will be performing at the Lensic on Tuesday, April 28. Caitlin Volz from the Lensic is in the early stages of planning a workshop with them and would love to work with a community group on the details.
    Typically, these last an hour long with an introduction to each musician and what their role is in the orchestra, an example of how they build a song, and then some play-along opportunities with different roles as well for the participants.

When constructing a man-sized cocoon for travel one needs to have an ample amount of glitter. I am truly in the debt of Tunesday for another successful glitter drive. I will not disclose the total gathered by color, I have addressed this issue many times. I see no compelling reason to go into an exhausting explanation that many of you have heard repeatedly for years. I will say that we all know the glitter color is not as important as the amount, obviously, as long as the application has to be done with great care. My current travel cocoon has been constructed with ample storage for three ukuleles thanks to the clever design recommendations by our fellow uke players. Unfortunately, last week, Tunesday, I received a demerit from one of the attendees for such a controversial design. A tiresome and ongoing rivalry continues to vex me. Although I accumulated 3 demerits by the end of the evening my ukelele was never confiscated like in April. I must be more careful. Clearly it is prudent to travel with three ukuleles to be prepared for such cruel and judgmental behavior. It is typically the small traveling minority within the Tunesday uke collective that distributes the greatest number of demerits each year. We have all seen the statistics. But enough of my travel plans let’s talk about your attendance record. Could we not expect your smiling and bedazzling countenance to grace us this Tunesday 2 September 2025. I would suggest attending somewhere between 17:30 and 19:30. Please be reminded that Tunesday will no longer be hosting asynchronous meetings which often lead to loneliness for many in our membership.
This is so long winded one would guess that the theme of the evening had been lost. But we can happily indicate by words that the theme has not been lost. This week’s theme will be blintzes. Please arrive with firewood and a suitable crepe pan. I hope to be astonished for most of the evening by your thoughtful creations.

As I look to the New Year and think of the work ahead of us, I provide below both the short and long version of one the many works I hope to present to the community this season in our beloved capital city.

It is really unknown what the next few days will have in store for us all since we don’t know the results of the tests.
Regardless of the test results, I will continue to blithely sing my many flats and sharps to the accompaniment of my poorly tuned uke. I would be delighted to sing with you were you to care to join me this Tunesday. It is never the number of wrong notes that are sung that creates the music, but the belief that you are warmly contained by a melodious song. As you all know by now, I am neither short on wrong notes nor lacking in steadfast belief of song.

There are few days left before the Tunesday Christmas concert and clandestine extravaganza. I am sure that all of you are feverishly sanding, filing and sawing your ukuleles to ensure that you can defend yourself at this years big event. I can hardly wait to see how you all have prepared for our annual spice presentation. This years spice theme is medieval spices. One would expect to see numerous presentations of sugar, dander, grains of paradise, and talc given your proclivity to be historically accurate. It has been a long time since I have had talc flavored hardtack and been exposed to the inevitable smoke from a smouldering peat fire.
Please make sure that you are aware of our weekly Tunesday gathering will be Tuesday 25 November 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church in La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asís from 17:30 to 19:30. I know that is a long time to be playing your uke, let alone paying attention to your surroundings, so we will have Greg the concentration pig with us this week to help us maintain focus. I find Greg to be quite a comfort since he responds so well to the regular rhythms that are found in many of our favorite Tunesday songs. Alas this will be the last time we may see Greg before the end of the year since he has many holiday engagements.

The windows were made purposefully to open in the wrong geometric plane, see incompetence above. They are now starting to rot due to incompetent use, see this continued series of emails. Rot and telomeres cannot restored.  The later I have had explained to my dim brain are like “shoe string ends” of our DNA that once they degrade cause our bodily “shoes” to smell, need new soles, and are in other ways make our shoes no longer attractive. Powerful radiation, reincarnation and waiting for old fashion trends to return may remedy things, respectively, but really there is nothing to tighten once senescence really kicks in.    
Speaking of the inevitability of aging, see senescence above, I must appreciate your patients with the lack of these lately inconsistent announcements. Even the wetware needs to be re-calibrated.
